The ECC laboratary computers may not be reserved by software "locking" programs or by placing signs on the station. This is due to their small number and the exposure of the individual and the system to compromise.
Jobs may be run in the background on individual workstations provided that they are run at the lowest possible priority so that the program will not interfere with the user at the console. The priority of a program may be set by the "nice" program. See the manual page (by typing "man nice" at the Unix command prompt) or Answerbook for a complete description of the "nice" program.
Accounts found violating this policy will be logged off and sent email stating the policy for the first two infractions. Subsequent infractions will result in the account being disabled.
