Faculty and Staff Office Network Connections

"All faculty and staff offices are connected by 1 Gigabit/sec full duplex Ethernet to the campus network which provides connectivity to the internet."

IT support dedicated to the College of Engineering
IT support for the College is provided by Engineering College Computing (ECC).
ECC maintains 13 physical computer labs available 24x7 by Rocket card to COE faculty, staff, and students and 3 virtual computer labs.

Eight (8) physical computer labs, totaling 313 seats, for instruction are reservable for class and are equipped with projectors and software to control the student computers.
ECC also maintains 3 computer labs, totaling 90 seats, which are "open", i.e., not reservable and one room, staffed approximately 60 hours per week during the academic year, for walk in help and special purpose needs including large format printing, color printing, and document scanning.

Additional Computer Labs for EECS Students Seats
Honors Academic Village (Dorm) 10
Virtual Lab - For Off-Campus Use 20
EECS Department (5 Labs) 76
All networked devices on the engineering campus have access to the campus and internet network by 1Gbit hardwire or via wireless access points.
The distance learning classrooms (PL 2650 & PL 2700) provide real time interaction between two geographically separate locations via video link.
The infrastructure allows lecturing to take place from either location and have the students able to fully interact with the professor and other classmates regardless of location.
Enterprise grade video conferencing hardware allow the instructor, computer, and document camera to be simultaneously linked between classrooms.
An additional camera is used to show the instructor the remote student(s) and microphones are placed between every seat to allow interaction regardless of location.
Palmer Hall PL 2700 is a lecture room accommodating 48 students.
There are network and power connections for laptop PCs at each seat.
Palmer Hall 2650 has seats for 29 students with a computer running a Windows OS at each station and network and power connections at each seat.

Standard development software, DreamSpark, Netbeans, Eclipse, etc. is available in all of the Engineering computer labs.

ECC staff
ECC has five full-time staff, including the director, for the maintenance of hardware and software.
Approximately one-third (1/3) of the lab computers are refreshed every summer.
This stringent replacement schedule is funded through a $17.50 per-credit-hour technology fee assessed each engineering student.

Approximately 15 part-time graduate/undergraduate students are employed as help desk assistants.
ECC establishes computer accounts for all entering UT freshmen engineering students and maintains these accounts until the students graduate or leave the college or university.

UT Main campus
"There are more than 300 computers in various academic buildings on main campus with minimum hours of operation 8:00 a.m - 8:00 p.m., the library having extended hours. Virtual labs are available from off campus 24x7."
