The Biomedical Optics Laboratory (BMOL) is part of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Toledo. The laboratory is Directed by Dr. Brent D. Cameron, PhD, who is a Professor of Bioengineering and founded the lab in August of 2000. The focus of the lab is targeted towards the development of innovative and novel medical devices based on the use of optical techniques. Core methods utilized include Polarization, Refraction, Surface Plasmon Resonance Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, and Fluorescence Spectroscopy. Although most of our research projects are optically-based, we also develop advanced modeling techniques for applications, such as, physiological glycemic forecasting for diabetes and critical care diagnostics.
