Hope to see you there.
Recap of Feb. 4 Meeting:
At the meeting Wednesday we passed around a sheet for suggestions for speakers anyone would like to invite to a meeting and suggestions for places anyone would like to tour. Dr. Kramer was the speaker and he talked about effective speaking, benefits of being an ASME member and the Fundamental of Engineering (FE) Exam. Dr. Kramer suggests that everyone try to take the FE exam. It takes 70 percent to pass and Dr. Kramer said UT has an exceptionally high pass rate compared to the 85 percent national pass rate. Dr. Kramer also explained the four things you must do to become a Professional Engineer: 1) Pass the FE Exam. 2)Graduate from an accredited engineering college. 3) Have four years of engineering work experience. 4) Pass the Professional Engineer (PE) Exam Dr. Kramer explained some of the reasons why you would become a Professional Engineer: 1) To be a consulting engineer you must be a PE 2) To move up to a chief engineering position 3) To show your employer you are serious about engineeringThose were just a few things Dr. Kramer mentioned about being a PE. Dr. Kramer also said you usually take the FE exam one semester before graduation. The FE exam is only offered twice a year, once in April and once in October. For anyone taking the FE exam ASME is selling FE study manuals for $50, just contact any ASME officer about purchasing one.
