Course Instructions


Welcome to the course!

The schedule given below will be helpful to you for starting the course work. You are free to choose your own style of reading/learning assessment. Instructions are given for each week to give you an idea of completing the course material and assignments.

NOTE: If you are unable to answer 80% of the questions in the section you went through then read that section again. Reading assignments from the text book may also be assigned in the class.



WEEK 1

1. Read the INTRODUCTION to the course.

2. Go through POWERPOINT SLIDES (INTRODUCTION) portion of the course.

3. Start solving the REVIEW PROBLEMS (INTRODUCTION) in REVIEW PROBLEMS SECTION of the course. 

4. Read CHAPTER # 1 from the text book.


WEEK 2

1. Start reading the course material on the CAUSES & SOURCES OF INDOOR AIR QUALITY PROBLEMS

2. Try to solve the REVIEW PROBLEMS ON CAUSES OF INDOOR AIR QUALITY PROBLEMS.

3. Start Project #1


WEEK 3

1.    Start reading the course material on RISK DUE TO INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS.

2.    Go through POWERPOINT SLIDES (RISK ASSESSMENT) portion of the course.

3.    Read CHAPTER # 2 from the text book

4. Start Assignment #1

5. Go through the workbook for Assignment #1


WEEK 4

1.    Start reading the course material on INDOOR AIR AIR POLLUTANTS (VOC & INORGANIC GASEOUS COMPOUNDS).

2.    Go through POWERPOINT SLIDES ( INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS - (VOCs & INORGANIC GASEOUS POLLUTANTS)     from the PowerPoint presentations portion of the course.

3.    Read CHAPTER # 3 from the text book.

4. Start Project #2


WEEK 5

1.    Start reading the course material on INDOOR AIR AIR POLLUTANTS (HEAVY METALS & RESPIRABLE PARTICLES).

2.   Go through POWERPOINT SLIDES INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS -  (HEAVY METALS & RESPIRABLE PARTICLES)     from the PowerPoint presentations portion of the course.

3.   Try to solve the REVIEW PROBLEMS (METALS & PARTICULATES)  from the REVIEW PROBLEMS section of the course.

4.   Read CHAPTER # 4  from the text book.

5.    Complete Assignment #2


WEEK 6

1.    Start reading the course material on INDOOR AIR AIR POLLUTANTS (BIOAEROSOLS & RADON).

2.    Go through POWERPOINT SLIDES INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS -  (BIOAEROSOLS & RADON)  from the Power point presentations portion of the course.

3.    Try to solve the REVIEW PROBLEMS (BIOAEROSOLS & RADON)  from the REVIEW PROBLEMS section of the course.

4.    Read CHAPTER # 5  from the text book and go through the document.

5.    Start Project #3


WEEK 7

1.    Start reading the course material on INDOOR AIR QUALITY - REGULATIONS (ASHRAE GUIDELINES)

2.    Please go through document Building Codes and Indoor Air Quality. Especially pages 6,7 and 20 to 25 and Table 2a. 

3.    Go through POWERPOINT SLIDES ( REGULATIONS )  from the Power point presentations portion of the course.

4.    Read CHAPTER # 6 from the text book.

5.    Try to solve the REVIEW PROBLEMS ( ASHRAE GUIDELINES )  from the REVIEW PROBLEMS section of the course.

6.    Complete Assignment #3

7.    Go through the workbook for Assignment #3

8.    Start Project #4


WEEK 8

1.    Start reading the course material on EMISSION RATE CALCULATION  in the course.

2.    Read CHAPTER # 7 from the text book.

3.    Start reading the chapter on INDOOR AIR QUALITY MODELS.

4.    Complete Assignment #4


WEEK 9

1.    Continue reading the course material on INDOOR AIR QUALITY MODELS.

2.    Read CHAPTER # 8 from the text book.

3.    Go through POWERPOINT SLIDES (ASSESSMENT OF BUILDINGS) from the Power point presentations portion of the course.

4.    Start reading the chapter on ASSESSMENT ( PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT & SELF EVALUATION OF INDOOR AIR QUALITY PROBLEMS)

5.    Start Project #5

6.    Complete Assignment #5

7.    Go through the workbook for Assignment #5


WEEK 10

1.    Continue reading the chapter on ASSESSMENT (SAMPLING TECHNIQUES & ASSESSMENT SUMMARY) sections of the course.

2.    Go through POWER POINT SLIDES (SAMPLING & MEASUREMENT) slides from the Power point presentations portion of the course.

3.    Review chapters 1 through 8 from the text book.

4.    Complete Assignment #6

5.    Go through the workbook for Assignment #6

6.    Start Project #6


WEEK 11

1.    Continue reading the chapter on ASSESSMENT ( GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS & CONCLUSIONS) sections of the course.

2.    Start looking into the DESIGN PROBLEMS & CASE STUDIES.

3.    Read CHAPTER # 9.

4.    Complete Assignment #7

5.    Go through the workbook for Assignment #7

6.    Start Project #7


WEEK 12

1.    The chapter on INDOOR AIR QUALITY - CONTROLS  will be discussed.

2.    Go through POWER POINT SLIDES (CONTROL TECHNIQUES) slides from the Power point presentations portion of the course.

3.    Read CHAPTER # 10  and also look into the control strategies given under each topic (pollutant) in the text book.

4.    Keep looking into DESIGN PROBLEMS

5.    Try to solve the REVIEW PROBLEMS (ADSORPTION)  from the REVIEW PROBLEMS section of the course.

6.    Complete Assignment #8

7.    Go through the workbook for Assignment #8

8.    Start Project #8


WEEK 13

1.    Start reading the chapter on CASE STUDIES  in the course.

2.    Keep looking into DESIGN PROBLEMS

3.    Try to analyze and solve the problem in each Case Study. This section deals with the application of theory and analysis portion covered in this course.

4.    Print out the case studies from the course material online and study them in a group.

5.    Complete Assignment #9

6.    Go through the workbook for Assignment #9

7.    Start Project #9


WEEK 14

1.    This week you will spend time going over the DESIGN PROBLEMS given in the course.

2.    This section directly deals with applying all the techniques learnt in this course and also the design calculation for real world problems on Indoor Air Quality. You will complete design problem # 1.

3.    Complete Assignment #10

4.    Go through the workbook for Assignment #10


WEEK 15

1.    Continue working on the DESIGN PROBLEMS. You will complete design problems # 2 and # 3.

2.    Start Project #10

3.    Review all the chapters covered so far for the examination.
