The Polymer Option
Semester System

A Polymer Option was established within the Chemical Engineering Department in the fall of 1989. Polymer Institute and Chemical Engineering Department faculty teach the courses. Under the quarter system, students could elect to take up to six of these courses as part of their M.S. Chemical Engineering program. This will change slightly under the semester system which starts the Fall of 1997. Students with backgrounds in areas other than Chemical Engineering may incorporate some of these courses in an M.S. or Ph.D. program.

The following polymer courses offered through the Polymer Institute. These courses are in addition to those required for a M.S. in Chemical Engineering:

ChEE 4800 / 5800 / 7800 - Polymer Science and Engineering
ChEE 4850 / 5850 / 7850 - Properties of Polymer Systems
ChEE 6810 / 8810 - Physical Chemistry of Polymers
ChEE 6840 / 8840 - Polymer Processing
ChEE 6860 / 8860 - Polymer Laboratory Methods
ChEE 6830 / 8830 - Transport in Plastics

Several research assistantships are available through the Polymer Institute.
