Radu Pavel is a Ph.D. Student in Manufacturing Engineering since January 2000 at The University of Toledo, MIME Department. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering and Management of Technological Systems, from POLYTECHNICAL University of Bucharest in 1999. The thesis was entitled "Contributions Regarding the Implementation of Composite Materials in Machines Manufacturing". His M.Sc. Degree in Advanced Technologies in New Materials was obtained from the same University in 1996. He defended a M.Sc.Thesis about "Non-conventional processing technologies for composite materials - abrasive water jet processing".
He benefit of a research stage at National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon, France, on development and optimization of Computer Integrated Manufacturing technologies. During this project he studied Concurrent Engineering processes using a Pro/ENGINEER – CATIA platform. Back in 1998 he won a LEONARDO grant for researching in Great Britain about staff training, supporting the students access to job market and promoting the development of carrier assignment technologies. In 1997 he accomplished a doctoral stage at Ecole Centrale de Lyon by studying some trybological aspects of composite materials. In 1995, he attended a training course in Heidelberg, Germany focused on operating and maintenance of the offset printing machines SpeedMaster 74 and GTO 52.
Starting with 1995 he is holding a part-time as Mechanical Engineer at R.A. «Monitorul Oficial» - the publishing house of the Romanian State official publications. His selected list of published papers contains many titles.
In January 2000 he joined the MIME Department working as a Research Associate. He is involved in a project studying continuos and interrupted hard turning. He is also interested in study the application of CAD/CAM/CAE facilities in industry and also the properties and applications of composite materials.
