Radu Coman graduated with a M.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering from The University of Toledo, MIME Department in May 2001. He received a Ph.D. degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Technical University "Gh. Asachi" of Iasi, Romania, in 1997. The thesis was entitled "Study of Surface Grinding with Diamond Wheels ". His M.Sc. Degree in Manufacturing Engineering was obtained from the same University in 1986.

After the 1986 graduation he worked for two years as a Product Design Engineer in the Prototypes Department of the Special Tools and Accessories Plant in Pascani, Romania. For two years and a half he occupied a position of Engineer for Research and Equipment Design in the Institute for Research and Technological Engineering for Light Industry Equipment, R&D Division in Iasi, Romania.

Since September 1991 he joined the Machine Manufacturing Engineering Department at the Technical University of Iasi as an Assistant Professor and, starting with 1996, he became a Lecturer at the same department.

He benefited of a one-year research stage at Technical University of Budapest in Hungary, back in 1993-1994.  During this project he studied the acoustic emission during surface grinding.

His list of published papers contains more than 50 titles.

In January 1998 he joined the PMMC working as a Research Associate.  He is involved in several projects studying Optimization of High Speed Grinding with CBN Wheels, Grinding of Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD)  and  Acoustic Emission in Grinding of Ceramics, ELID Grinding of Brittle Materials.
