Technical Electives
12 Hours of Technical Electives are required for the BSME, and nine hours for the BSIE. Up to ONE technical elective course may be taken outside of the MIME Department.

Technical Electives for undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering should be selected with a good deal of thought. Please see your advisor for input on this important decision..

The following electives are approved for Technical Electives:

  • Any 3000-level or 4000-level engineering course in the departments of Bioengineering [BIOE], Chemical and Environmental Engineering [CHE], Civil Engineering [CIVE], Electrical and Computer Science Engineering [EECS], Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering [MIME].
Note:Courses in the Engineering Technology program are not approved as technical electives in ME or IE.

  • Any ONE of the following:

    • Any 3000-level or 4000-level course in Mathematics [MATH], Biology [BIOL], Chemistry [CHEM] or Physics [PHYS]
    • Any of the business 3000-level or 4000-level course that students taking the business minor are required to take

EXCEPTIONS:

Credit will not be granted for an equivalent course already taken in the quarter system or at another university.

Credit will not be granted for a course that is essentially the same as a required course. An example is the Senior Design Projects course offered by another department.
