The goal of the mechanical engineering program of study is for our students to learn to solve problems related to motion, design, and thermal sciences. This is achieved by combining the necessary background with training in advanced mathematics (to include differential equations and statistics), chemistry, physics, and engineering topics.

Through laboratory experiences, our students will be able to make measurements on and be able to interpret data obtained from mechanical and electrical systems. Opportunities for our students to work on a variety of group projects, and to prepare and make written and oral presentations, will develop communication skills and teamwork.

Furthermore, the co-operative education experiences of our students will provide them with real-world work experiences that introduce them to the practice of engineering while placing in context their academic studies. Graduates of our program will be prepared for positions of increasing responsibility as practicing engineers in a variety of industries and government agencies that are involved in the development, testing, marketing, and aerospace. Additionally, our Bachelor of Science degree graduates will also be prepared for continued study in graduate school or in professional schools such as medicine or law.
