How to configure a machine to use the ECC Print Quota System

    Explanatory comments are written in italics. In most cases, text in [brackets] represents input which varies with needs of the user, text in "quotes" represent menu items, icon choices or something needing to be typed exactly as shown and bold text represents the expected computer prompt or resultant response.

    Note:
    Users must have their ECC home directory mounted for a print job to be accepted.
    Machines must be members of the "eng.utoledo.edu" subnet to mount user's $HOME directory.
    User's login name must match their ECC account's username.

    Brief Procedure for Experienced Users

    Ensure Microsoft TCP/IP Printing is installed

    Add a local LPR printer:

    1. Use "[building abbreviation][room #]pqs.eng.utoledo.edu"
      for the Name or address of server providing lpd:
      Names of servers and printers
    2. Use the print queue name of the printer in the above associated room for the
      Name of printer or print queue on that server:Names of servers and printers

    Install the Proper HP drivers
    User must have their ECC home directory mounted via smb (NOT NFS) for a print job to be accepted
       (Must be in Engineering's subnet to mount home directory currently.)
    User's login name must match their ECC account's username

    UNIX

    Hostname of the client must be submitted to ECC for addition to an authentication database
    Print queues need to be set up to send jobs to remote server
    (e.g. server = ne1026pqs.eng.utoledo.edu, queuename = lj1026)

    1. Use "[building abbreviation][room #]pqs.eng.utoledo.edu"
      for the name or address of server
      Names of servers and printers
    2. Use the print queue name of the printer in the above
      associated room for the name of printer or print queue on that server
      Names of servers and printers

    User's must have their ECC home directory mounted via NFS
    User's login name must match their ECC account's username

    Step by Step Procedure for Inexperienced Users

    Ensure Microsoft TCP/IP Printing is installed

    1. From the Desktop click on
      "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel"
    2. Double click on "Network"
    3. Click on the "Services" tab
    4. Ensure that Microsoft TCP/IP Printing is installed
    5. Click on "Cancel" and do not restart the computer

    Add a local LPR printer:
    1. From the Desktop click on
      "Start", "Settings", "Printers"
    2. Double click on "Add Printer"
    3. Ensure that My Computer is Selected
    4. Click on "Next", "Add Port"
    5. Select LPR Port
    6. Use "[building abbreviation][room #]pqs.eng.utoledo.edu"
      for the Name or address of server providing lpd:
      Names of servers and printers
    7. Use the print queue name of the printer in the above
      associated room for the
      Name of printer or print queue on that server:
      Names of servers and printers
    8. Click on "Close", "Next"
    9. Choose the appropriate HP print driver, Click on "Next"
    10. Select the Do not share printer option, Click on "Next"
    11. Click on "Finish"

    User must be in Engineering's subnet.
    User's login name must match their ECC account's username.


    Unix
