    Introduction

The following page offers a solution to one of the Eudora mailboxes showing a blank screen with no messages or headers.

    Brief Procedure for Experienced Users

For any Folder that has been created to sort mail there is a corresponding .MBX and .TOC file. Delete the corrupted .TOC ( Table of Contents) file for the corresponding folder located in the mail folder on the U: drive. When Eudora executes the Toc file will be rebuilt. It is important to leave all .MBX files alone! These contain the actual email messages.

Step by Step Procedure for Inexperienced Users

    1. Close Eudora
    2. Locate and open the Mail folder located on the U drive.
    3. Locate the offending .TOC file for the folder you are having problems with, make a backup, then delete it.

    4. Example:
If your In box is blank, you would need to delete the file "IN.TOC" from the your mail directory. Make sure Eudora isn't running first!
    5. Upon restarting Eudora the .TOC file will either be automatically rebuilt, or you will be warned of a corrupted table of contents and asked to rebuild it (choose yes).
    6. Backup and/or delete any unneeded messages to reduce the size of the previously corrupted mailbox

    Explanation

This problem occurs when the table of contents file (.TOC) for the particular mailbox gets corrupted. According t o Eudora tech support this sometimes occurs when the user lets their In, Out or Trash contents exceed 1MB in size. These three mailboxes are loaded into memory upon startup of Eudora - so if they get excessively large, you risk causing slowdowns in Eudora and mailbox corruption.
