Richard Hausman, Chemical Engineering graduate student, recently won the poster contest at the 2010 North American Membrane Society-International Conference on Inorganic Membranes (NAMS-ICIM), a Joint Conference. The poster: "Study of the Effects of Antimicrobial Copper-Charged Feed Spacers on Membrane Biofilm Growth Kinetics," by Richard Hausman with Dr. Isabel Escobar as his advisor. Dr. Moshin Jamali, Professor EECS, was recently awarded a grant from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), under the DAGSI program, for the "Fast Fourier Transform FPGA/ASIC Architecture Simulator/Generator" project. This grant will provide support for one research assistant for Dr. Jamail's PhD student for one full year.

University of Toledo's first greenhouse gas inventory was conducted by Dr. Defne Apul's Sustainability Engineering Class students. This first estimate showed that UT's current annual carbon footprint is approximately 82,300 metric tons of CO2. Students presented the results to UT president Dr. Jacobs and his senior leadership team on April 28, 2010. Colleen M. Gorey, Ph.D. candidate in Chemical & Environmental Engineering has been selected to receive the NAMS 2010 Travel Award. A record-high number of 70 individuals applied this year and the awards selection was extremely competitive. The award includes a prize of $1,000 for reimbursement of travel cost associated with the 2010 NAMS meeting. The awards will be announced dining the dinner banquet of the meeting in Washington D.C. this July.
