Related Experience - Teaching and Industrial
- 1979-1982 The University of
Houston, Department of Civil Engineering. Participated in an extensive
full-scale field testing program of an instrumented pile group in clay,
funded by the Federal Highway Administration. Major responsibilities
included interpretation of soil testing; field and pile instrumentation;
interpretation of pile load test results. Dissertation research on
effective stress methods for piles in clay and finite element modeling of
piles in clay. Dissertation title: 'Analysis of Axial Single Pile-Soil
Interaction in Clay.' Instructor for geotechnical engineering laboratory
classes.
- 1977-1979 St. Louis District,
Corps of Engineers. Engineer in the Soil Section in the Engineering
Division. Participated in the design of a lock and dam including slope
stability, bearing capacity, settlement, pile analysis and seepage
analysis. Initiated a study on the liquefaction potential of existing
structures. Conducted dam safety inspections.
- 1974-1976 GAI Consultants,
Inc., Pittsburgh, Pa. Engineer in the Geotechnical and Environmental
Group. Responsibilities included pile load testing program; laboratory
soils testing; subsurface investigation; reviewing and report writing.
Field engineer responsible for inspection of large earth and rock dam
construction.
