Gap Assessment Tool

This tool performs a GAP analysis, based on ISO 14001,to gauge the implementation of an Environment Management System. This tool has been developed using a combination of Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications and provides a checklist for verification of percentage implementation of the environmental management system for an organization.

HARDWARE AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

To run GAP 1.0.0 certain software and hardware should be installed in the computer. The minimum system requirements include:

        Microsoft Windows 95/NT/2000.

        Microsoft Excel 2000.

        80486 or higher Microprocessor.

        A hard disk with a minimum of 50 Mega Bytes space for installation.

        VGA or higher-resolution screen supported by Microsoft Windows.

        16 MB of RAM.

        A Mouse or other suitable pointing device.

PROCEDURE TO DOWNLOAD THE TOOL

The tool consists of a Microsoft Excel file called gap_assessment.xls. To download GAP 1.0.0 follow the following procedure:

        Click on the download link below.

        For some Internet Explorer users, on click of the download button it will ask the user to save the  file or run it from the source.

        Select to save the xls file on the hard drive of your personal computer.

        For some users the excel file may open directly. If the file opens directly, select "Save As" from the File menu of your browser and save the file on the hard disk of your computer. In case of any problem, refer to the User's Manual for further instructions. 

        For Netscape users, on click of the download button it will ask the user for the directory path to save the xls file.

        Again for some users, the excel file may open directly. Follow the procedure outlined above if you experience this problem.

        Run the xls file for using the tool. Follow the procedure specified in the users manual for running the tool.

MSDS Manager

The MSDS Manager is a software tool that enables the user to maintain an electronic database of MSDS sheets. By using this tool an user can upload scanned MSDS sheets of a chemical  in a database and print it if required. The individual MSDS sheets can be retreived from the database as and when required.

HARDWARE AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

To run MSM certain software and hardware should be installed in the computer. The minimum system requirements include:

        Microsoft Windows 95/NT/2000.

        80486 or higher Microprocessor.

        A hard disk with a minimum of 100 Mega Bytes space for installation.

        VGA or higher-resolution screen supported by Microsoft Windows.

        16 MB of RAM.

        A Mouse or other suitable pointing device.

        A scanner to scan MSDS sheets

        A suitable scanning software package ( Scan Works recommended)

PROCEDURE TO DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE

All the setup files are zipped together. To install the software on any personal computer the user is required to unzip the files and then run the set up procedure. For obtaining unzip software click here . To download the MSM follow the following procedure:

        Select to save the zip file on the hard drive of your personal computer.

        For Netscape users, on click of the download button it will ask the user for the directory path to save the zip file.

        After saving the file unzip it using the unzip software. Click here for downloading the zip software.

        Run the setup.exe file for installing the software. Follow the prompts thereafter.

        Download  the "i" folder to the same directory in which the software is installed.

        Unzip the "i" folder.

Emission Reduction Calculator

The Emission Reduction Calculator is a software tool that enables the user to estimate pollution prevention of an energy conservation project . The tool calculates the reduction in emission of three pollutants, viz. CO2, NOx and SO2, that can be achieved by reducing energy consumption. The tool uses EPA regional emission factors to calculate the reduction in emission of the pollutants.

HARDWARE AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Lean Assessment Screening Tool

The software can be used for a screening assessment of the amount lean and green engineering implemented in a facility. The tool is divided into 4 sections. Each section has different outputs, which can be viewed in text format or spreadsheet format. Web links are provided which give users more information on Lean Principles.

The DGP version 1.0 tool has been developed to assist small and medium sized industries in their pollution prevention efforts. This tool presents more than 400 products that contain recycled content, reduce waste, conserve energy or water, use less packaging, and reduce the amount of toxics disposed or consumed are considered to be green products that are  based on a review of over 300 sites.
